India: a Superpower
on August 24th, 1608 We saw a twist of fate
Captain Hawkins docked at the port
Then Emperor Jahangir from his fort
Granted them a royal Farman, that
Led to a diplomat
Giving them the get-go
To build a factory on the plateau
7 years later
They said ‘we’re no haters!’
And thus, those who had come for trade
Took over the country without a crusade
What started in 1857
Seemingly ended in 1947
But what the world didn’t know
India had ways to go
From a third-world country
To the host of the G20
From a depleted dynasty
To a superpower in all our majesty
From a literacy rate of 12%
To 5 paise per cent
From 2.7 lakh crore GDP
To the world’s 5th largest economy
